Frequently Asked Questions
What should my child wear?
1
This is an informal opportunity to experience what it's is like to sing with Altrincham Youth Choir, so there is no dress code. Please wear whatever feels comfortable and easy to move in for a day of singing and music-making.
Does my child need sheet music?
2
We'll send PDF copies of the music a couple of weeks before the workshop so singers can become familiar with the songs if they wish. However, every participant will receive their own printed copy on the day, so there is no need to print the music at home.
Can parents stay and watch?
3
Absolutely! Parents and carers are welcome to stay and observe if they would like to.
The morning will focus primarily on learning notes and section rehearsals, so it might be a great opportunity for parents to grab a coffee and some lunch before returning later in the day.
You are welcome to join us for the afternoon rehearsal from 1:00pm, or simply return for the informal performance at 3:30pm.
Yes please. Singers should bring:
A packed lunch
A water bottle
A pencil
A couple of snacks for throughout the day
4
Do I need to provide a packed lunch?
Should my child learn the music before the day?
5
It isn't necessary to learn the music beforehand, and all singers will be supported throughout the workshop.
However, listening to the songs and becoming familiar with the music in advance will help singers get even more out of the day, particularly those singing harmony parts. Come and Sing Days move quickly, so a little preparation can go a long way in building confidence and allowing us to spend more time making music together.
Does my child need previous choir or singing experience?
6
Not at all! We welcome singers of all experience levels, from those who have never sung in a choir before to experienced young musicians. The day is designed to be fun, inclusive and supportive, with opportunities for everyone to learn and develop their musical skills.
Who is the workshop for?
7
The workshop is open to all young people aged 7-18 who enjoy singing!
